Things change. This is the ultimate fact of life. Everything in the universe changes, there is no constant. Although, many science and mathematical freaks will tell me that there are constants in mathematics and science but this is not true. In order to fulfill the desires of the geek in me, I will split this post into two sections, the Science side and the Philosophical side.

The Science Side

As a matter of fact, the constants of nature are also changing. As for gravity, even on earth, it varies according to the distance from the centre of gravity of the earth. Even constants like the size of an electron and the distance between two protons change. Albeit, this may take millions of years and according to recent studies, this has happened. But now, I would like to go to the main point of this post.

The Philosophical Side

I was wondering recently, how my life has changed over the years. I have become more mature, my English has gotten better and so has my confidence. I have recognized many of my talent and now am ready to pursue them. However, it was not always this way. I was never street smart. Even now I can recall many incidents where I have gotten cheated by my own “friends”.

Along with me, my friends have also grown up. There was once a time when I was inseparable with my best friend. Things change and just like that, so did my friends. I still remember telling my parents that if they wanted to find me, all they had to do was to locate my best friend.

As I learnt from the pilot episode of a show called “Joey”, change can be a good thing. However, it can often be painful and hard to let go of something we have had for so long. I do not want my friend to follow me around all day and neither do I want to break my friendship with him. It is his decision to make and I will be happy either way.

Sometimes, even I can be a bit too naive. I know that things will always change yet, deep down in my heart, I hoped that they wouldn’t. I am in my second last year of school and soon I will be boarded off to college. My parents always told me that even the best of friends lose contact after college. I believed that my friendship would be an exception but now I realized that this is the only constant of nature. We go in friends, but come out strangers.

Those of you who care to stay friends, I say please do. But those of you, who are destined to be apart, take it with pride.

The End Will Never Come July 11, 2006

They say that the end of the world will only come if there is equilibrium in the world. This corresponds to both the scientific as well as the social stratus of life. The main reason the world still exists is that it has a purpose, that purpose is to attain the perfect balance. I am not making this up but unfortunately I do not have any links to prove this.

Thing is, that, according to science, the Big Bang filled the entire universe with matter and so much heat that it took billions of years to cool. However, the hotter a body is, the faster it will cool. This is known as the Mpemba effect. As the universe cooled down, the cooling process became slower. Thus, we are left with the present universe where there are still great variations in temperature and thus the purpose of the universe is to attain perfect balance. It is only then, that this world will end.

Coming to the social aspect, we all know about the war and crimes that pillage our world. But then, why hasn’t the world ended yet ? The answer lies in the widely popular Ying and Yang. According to me, as long there is a good (Ying), there will a bad (Yang). However, we perceive this world to be bad and dying because of what the media tells you to perceive. They show us only the bad and the good people have to struggle to get attention.

We live in a modern society, but with all the bad stuff going around in the world, children, our future have given up on virtues like honesty, integrity and strong belief that they can do anything they want (good things, obviously). Honestly, I was too like the generic teenager, but then I realized that if the world was really as bad as it sounded, then why didn’t it end centuries ago ? I came to this conclusion and I am happy with the decision I made to keep on doing good, irrespective of how bad or good the world may become. I suggest you do the same.

The Guilty Passion July 4, 2006

Filed under: My Philosophy — Master Cheif @ 12:27 pm

Science, anyone who has read even one post of mine will know that science is my life. It is my passion, the reason I live. However, I feel that soon this passion, my life and everything in it will come to crashing halt. For those of you who don’t know, I am now in the eleventh grade. Let me tell you it’s horrible but I didn’t write this post to complain.

Fact is, that as we get older, we have less and less time to devote to our passions. Even so, I believe that, at the fundamental level, science is almost as useless as history or civics. In fact, even history can contribute to a country’s growth. Science is merely a guilty pleasure, something scientists divulge in, to fulfill their own curiosities.

Fundamentally, science is pretty useless. Who cares why the earth revolves around the sun ? Or why the concept of dark matter is useful (except that it sounds cool) ? In a modern society, science, especially physics and cosmology have no purpose. Soon, when politicians realize that it is indeed so, we will see the end of science as we know it.

Luckily, there are still the few, who are rich and will be able to invest in their own experiments but with the more and more complex experiments, even they too will shy away from such an extravagant expense. Most countries will dump the excess funds to economic research because lets face it that IS the right way to go.

For many science haters this is a blessing, but unfortunately, it will do more harm than good. Science is like an art. It needs to mature through the ages and only people with the right eye (or brain) can discern what it depicts. I hope that even if my chance for success in science is a failure, there still be an opportunity to carry the torch which has been passed down from the dawn of time.

Status Of Women In India July 3, 2006

Now this doesn’t seem like a normal topic for me but after listening to all the crap said at my school, I wanted to set the record straight. So, let me begin with the crap said at my school. Apparently, my teacher believes that the women, in India are not being exploited and are, in fact, the stronger sex.

Truth is that, no matter what the religion, culture or country, the status of women is the same. They are treated like toys, one that can be played with and thrown away whenever one wants. Although, in countries like the U.S.A., the status is a bit better but it’s still not acceptable.

The main problem arises from the fact that, in the olden days, of the dark ages, women were treated very badly. Unfortunately, they did not revolt and it was a choice that women would have to bear for centuries. Whether you believe the Da Vinci Code and blame it on the church or you blame the society, point is that women were hopelessly trapped in a web of despair, laid down by men of the time.

Fast forward to the twenty-first century, about a thousand years later, women are just beginning to realize their full potential. Amazingly, this has taken a rather long time. Just an example how women were brainwashed into thinking that they belonged in the kitchen. Women experienced another lull during the time of Hitler, with his anti-women policies.

Now, in the year 2006, women are almost on top of the world. Although, many countries still do not have women Prime Ministers or Presidents, the conditions are much better for them. They enjoy as much as freedom as we do. However, since they still are a minority (esp. India) they are harassed by men in the workplace.

I believe that, as women come up in India, this problem of harassment too will slowly diminish. However, I feel that women may, yet again, see another lull in their freedom due to their (not all) sexists attitude. They have begun to do more and more vulgar/sex scenes and slowly, as this becomes a trend, women will fight themselves, in order to earn the reputation of a play toy or a true contributor to the welfare of the world. Let’s hope that the latter wins.
